Executive Leadership Team

Sandy Kursban, Founder/Chairman
In 1968, Sandy felt that there was a need for senior care that was not being met in the community, and Family & Nursing Care was born. Naturally, she has performed every job function in the company at one time or another over the years. Sandy is currently serving on the board of the Private Care Association – a national association of home care referral service agencies, and the Association of Independent Health Care Owners – local to Maryland. With a degree in Family Studies, Sandy worked as a Caseworker with foster children prior to starting Family & Nursing Care. When she is not overseeing the business, Sandy enjoys spending time with her grandchildren, nature walks, bird watching, art, traveling, "and sometimes doing nothing at all." Sandy says that someday she wants to learn to play the harp and return to South Dakota to feed the buffaloes.

Neal Kursban, President
Since 1995, Neal has filled "whatever role needed to be filled" at Family & Nursing Care. In his current position, Neal is charged with developing strategies to lead the company into the future. With a BA in General Business and Finance from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, and an MBA in Entrepreneurship/Management from the University of Maryland, College Park, Neal is very active in the community and serves on various boards. Prior to coming home to Family & Nursing Care, Neal worked for PepsiCo, as a Human Resources Manager for the San Diego, CA market. When not at work, Neal spends much of his time doing anything athletic, traveling, reading, and spending time with his family.

Dawn Seek , Vice President, Operations
A 28-year healthcare veteran, Dawn has spent the last 17 years in home health care.  Dawn’s experience includes a position as a nurse liaison for a home infusion company, manager of a case management department for a large home health agency and most recently as the Director of Operations for a private duty agency.  Born and raised in Massachusetts, she has lived in Maryland for over 20 years. In addition to being a licensed nurse, Dawn graduated from Potomac College in Washington, DC, with a degree in Business Management. Dawn’s experience and expertise in the home care industry are welcome, as Dawn will work to strengthen internal operations and assist Family & Nursing Care as it continues to grow.  Dawn spends her leisure time with her family, reading, and continuing her education, regarding herself as a ‘lifelong student.’

Barbara Krause, Vice President of Client Services
Barbara plays a key role to ensure client satisfaction. She oversees the Care Coordinators, Consumer Relations department and Front Desk Associates. Barbara started with Family & Nursing Care in 1986 as a Care Coordinator, and has also worked in the Human Resources department and as director of Consumer Relations. Prior to starting with Family & Nursing Care, Barbara worked with developmentally delayed adults. In her downtime, Barbara enjoys art, music, nature and "exploring this amazing country" with her family. Barbara is a graduate of the University of Maryland.

Mitch Markowitz, Vice President, Business Development
Originally from New Jersey, Mitch has been with Family & Nursing Care since 2001. A graduate of Towson University, Mitch is responsible for marketing and business development for Family & Nursing Care and it’s sister company, Legacy Home Care.  Prior to Family & Nursing Care, most of Mitch’s experience was in the senior housing industry, at both assisted living communities and continuing care retirement communities. He is very active in the local community, currently serving on the board of the Senior Resource Alliance of Suburban Maryland and on the Beacon Institute Education Committee. He has also served as co-chairperson of the GROWS Program Committee, as well as other local committees. When not working, Mitch enjoys spending time with his wife and two beautiful children.

Sheldon Kronzek, Vice President, Finance
Sheldon joined Family & Nursing Care in 2005, with 28 years of accounting and finance experience. He was a partner in a Washington, DC public accounting firm for 17 years before taking a position as chief financial officer of a medical equipment company. Sheldon's last position before joining Family & Nursing Care was as chief financial officer of a large non-profit organization. Sheldon was born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania where he graduated from Robert Morris College with a degree in accounting. When he isn't rooting for the Pittsburgh Steelers, you will find Sheldon playing volleyball or tinkering with anything electronic. If the gadget is still working, Sheldon will happily turn his attention to his wife and three children.
