Executive Leadership Team

Sandy Kursban, Founder/Chairman
Sandy serves as the Chairman of Family & Nursing Care, one of the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area's premier and most highly regarded resources for private duty home care. A pioneer in her field, Sandy Kursban's essence is that of helping and serving others. Her deep respect and sensitivity toward older adults inspired her to start Family & Nursing Care in 1968. Sandy believes strongly in providing the option of in-home support care, giving older adults the choice to remain as independent as possible in their own homes. For over 40 years, Family & Nursing Care has maintained a reputation of high-quality personalized service and responsiveness by referring highly-skilled nursing assistants and nurses.

During these past 40 years, Sandy has also been a key part of shaping the way home care is provided in the DC area. She gives freely of her time to better serve the senior population through partnering with other companies, participating on various boards and committees, serving as a resource for others, and remaining involved with state and local politics and legislation.

One of Sandy's core values, which she has implemented through Family & Nursing Care, is to give back to the community. She gives to many non-profit organizations and sponsors community activities and projects that directly benefit the senior community. In 2008, in honor of Family & Nursing Care's 40th anniversary, Sandy launched the Family & Nursing Care Foundation to address two vital needs in the community.

When she is not overseeing the business, Sandy enjoys spending time with her three children and many grandchildren, nature walks, bird watching, art, traveling, and sometimes doing nothing at all. Sandy says that someday she wants to learn to play the harp, as well as return to South Dakota to visit with the buffaloes.

Neal Kursban, President
Neal started working for Family & Nursing Care in 1995 and became President of the company in March 2008. Prior to becoming President, Neal served many roles from receptionist, care coordinator, caregiver services associate, controller, intake specialist, consumer relations liaison, and IT manager to VP Sales/Marketing, VP Operations, VP Accounting, and Executive Vice President.  The various roles Neal has assumed in the company enabled him to understand all the details of running the company and gave him the background and knowledge he needs to now lead the company into the future.

With a BA in General Business and Finance from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, and an MBA in Entrepreneurship/Management from the University of Maryland, College Park, Neal is very active in the community and serves on various Boards. He has been an active member for the Private Care Association (PCA) and the Association for Independent Health Care Owners (AIHCO), and a Board member for the Grass Roots Organization for the Well Being of Seniors (GROWS). Neal is currently on the Board of Trustees for the Jewish Council for the Aging and is also actively involved with several hospice agencies in the region.

Prior to joining the family business with Family & Nursing Care, he worked for PepsiCo as a Human Resources Manager for the San Diego market. When not at work, Neal spends much of his "free" time doing anything athletic, traveling, reading, and spending time with his family.
