Sandy Kursban, Founder/Chairman
Sandy serves as the Chairman of Family & Nursing Care, one of the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area's premier and most highly regarded resources for private duty home care. A pioneer in her field, Sandy Kursban's essence is that of helping and serving others. Her deep respect and sensitivity toward older adults inspired her to start Family & Nursing Care in 1968. Sandy believes strongly in providing the option of in-home support care, giving older adults the choice to remain as independent as possible in their own homes. For over 40 years, Family & Nursing Care has maintained a reputation of high quality personalized service and responsiveness by referring highly skilled nursing assistants and nurses.
Sandy has also played a key role in shaping the way home care is provided in the DC area. She gives freely of her time to better serve the senior population through partnering with other companies, participating on various boards and committees, serving as a resource for others, and remaining involved with state and local politics and legislation.
One of Sandy's core values, reflected above and which she has implemented through Family & Nursing Care, is to give back to the community. She gives to many non-profit organizations and sponsors community activities and projects that directly benefit the senior community. In 2008, in honor of Family & Nursing Care's 40th anniversary, Sandy fulfilled her most cherished long-time dream. She launched the Family & Nursing Care Foundation with two primary goals to support: 1. Community organizations that provide low-income seniors with the dedicated home care they need to remain in the safety and comfort of their own homes and 2. Homecare training programs for those special individuals who want to learn the skills needed to become nurses and nursing assistants so that they may care for our elderly population.
When she is not overseeing the business, Sandy enjoys spending time with her husband, children, and many grandchildren; taking nature walks and bird-watching; art; traveling; and sometimes doing nothing at all. Sandy says that someday she wants to learn to play the harp, as well as return to South Dakota to visit again with the buffaloes. |

Jeff Zukerman, Vice President, Client Services
Jeff brings more than 15 years of experience in the elder care industry to Family & Nursing Care. Prior to joining the company in 2010, Jeff was the Executive Director of a Boston-based private duty home care company, HouseWorks of Greater Washington.
Jeff began his career in the hospitality industry after graduating from Johnson and Wales University in Providence, Rhode Island. He brought that same passion to the healthcare industry when he joined Marriott Senior Living Services. Throughout his 10+ year career with Marriott, then Sunrise Senior Living, Jeff had the opportunity to work in three different senior communities and was invited to visit many others to help with special projects. It is through these experiences and the first-rate professional development he participated in throughout that time that Jeff developed a passion for "getting it right" for seniors.
Jeff is driven by his passion for seeing through the eyes of clients and looking continuously for out-of the box ways to improve the lives of seniors. To enhance his knowledge base, he achieved a BA in Management Studies from the University of Maryland and has plans to complete a Masters in Healthcare Administration.
When not working, Jeff enjoys spending time with his wife and four children, especially when they are playing sports together. |
