Local Business Committed to Helping Sustain Needed Programs
and Services for Low-Income Seniors
(Silver Spring, Maryland – May 24, 2011)
The Family & Nursing Care Foundation, a fund of the Community Foundation for Montgomery County, will once again support Community Ministries of Rockville and Home Care Partners, Inc. with a combined total of $30,000 in grants. Both organizations provide low-income seniors with the dedicated home care they need to remain in the safety and comfort of their own homes.
“Last year, both of the organizations selected for the grants told us that, because of cuts to County funding, they would have had to severely reduce their services or close their programs altogether had it not been for the Foundation’s support,” said Sandy Kursban, founder of Family & Nursing Care, Inc., and its Foundation. “These organizations do a tremendous job of meeting a vital community need, and I believe that it is the responsibility of local businesses to step in and partner with the County to help sustain critical programs like these.”
“I am happy to acknowledge the important contributions of the Family & Nursing Care Foundation which include providing $30,000 in much needed support for local non profit care providers,” said County Executive Isiah Legget. “I am especially grateful for the leadership and example that Family & Nursing Care has demonstrated in creating and funding the foundation. At a time when every societal institution is being challenged financially, our community will continue its tradition of compassion and community service when each person, organization and business steps up to help. Certainly the Family & Nursing Care Foundation has done so. Many thanks.”
Both grantees have found that as little as 2-3 hours of home care services a week are enough to provide many clients with the physical and psychological support they need to remain independent and in their homes.
About the Family & Nursing Care Foundation
Established in 2008, the Family & Nursing Care Foundation, a fund of the Community Foundation for Montgomery County, will help people who cannot always help themselves, working to address two vital needs in the community. The Foundation’s primary goals are to help support community organizations that provide low-income seniors with the dedicated home care they need to remain in the safety and comfort of their own homes and to help support home care training programs for those individuals who want to learn the skills needed to become nurses and nursing assistants so that they may care for our elderly population.
