Family & Nursing Care Foundation Grants $60,000 to Organizations Helping Low-Income Aging Adults

Home Care Assistance for Low Income Aging Adults

Silver Spring, MD – The Family & Nursing Care Foundation, a fund of the Community Foundation in Montgomery County, recently awarded a total of $60,000 to three local non-profit organizations that provide low-income, aging adults with the dedicated home care support they need to remain in the safety and comfort of their own homes. To date, the Foundation has donated over a quarter of a million dollars to provide home care assistance to this growing population.

The Foundation awarded $20,000 to Home Care Partners, a non-profit home care agency that provides a wide range of supportive services for elderly, chronically ill, and disabled residents in Washington, D.C. and Montgomery County, MD. Another $20,000 was awarded to the Elderly Ministries program of Community Ministries of Rockville, an interfaith, non-profit organization providing a range of services to aging adults. In addition, $20,000 was given to the Jewish Social Services Agency (JSSA) Holocaust Survivor Program, which helps low-income survivors with their home care needs.

“It is an honor and a privilege to be able to support these incredible organizations once again,” said Sandy Kursban, founder of Family & Nursing Care and the Family & Nursing Care Foundation. “It’s very rewarding to see our grants providing low-income seniors with peace of mind by offering devoted home care in the comfort of their own homes. Improving the quality of life for low-income seniors is the reason I started the Foundation.”

These monetary gifts will provide for approximately 6,000 hours of in-home care for aging adults who would not otherwise be able to afford this assistance.

The Family & Nursing Care Foundation was launched by Family & Nursing Care in 2008 to improve access to care for low-income seniors and to offer training opportunities for prospective caregivers. Last year alone, close to 10,000 hours of care were given courtesy of Foundation funding.

Each year, Family & Nursing Care donates a percentage of its profits to the Foundation. Ms. Kursban personally matches this amount dollar-for-dollar, as well as matches every outside donation the Foundation receives.
