Becoming a nurse was a career path for Celina ever since her childhood, when, as an accident-prone kid, she spent a lot of time with the school nurse. After watching the nurse bandage her own injuries, when a friend hurt her ankle in gym class, Celina expertly wrapped her friend’s ankle with an ace bandage. When the nurse saw Celina’s handiwork, she said, “You’d make a good nurse!” That encouragement stuck with her.
After 12 years in the field of nursing, Celina joined Family & Nursing Care in 2021. Her expertise and skill were evident from the very start. In fact, after only a few months on the job Celina was promoted to her current position as Director of Nursing.
Celina is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the nursing department. While her activities can vary, they include collaborating with other departments, conducting Start of Care assessments and Supervisory Visits with clients, updating clients’ Plan of Care, giving Caregiver Orientation presentations, and staffing blood pressure clinics at area senior living communities, to name a few. She also provides advice, resources, health education and skills review to Caregivers.
In her role Celina gets to meet a lot of different people – both Caregivers and clients – and hear about their life experiences. She says the best part of her job is having conversations with the people she meets and learning about the unique ways in which they have contributed to and impacted our world.
When she’s not working Celina likes to relax by watching Netflix, spending time with family and her fur-babies (both a cat and a dog), going on nature walks, bowling and going out for Pizza!
