Kelly Salb

Kelly earned her Social Work degree at Longwood University and became a licensed Social Worker in 2005. She worked for a startup home care agency in Bethesda, MD, and joined Family & Nursing Care in 2012. After years as a Director of Client Services with the Company, Kelly was recently promoted to Vice President, Client Services. In 2022, Kelly was named to Aging Media Network’s Future Leaders Class of 2022, showcasing the most promising talent in senior housing, skilled nursing, home health and hospice industries. Kelly has always loved helping people in any way possible and knew she wanted to be in a field where she could learn how to advocate for the aging population and their families.

Kelly loves anything sports-related, spending time outdoors, and staying active with her husband and their three children.

Jennifer Sussman

Jennifer started her relationship with Family & Nursing Care as a college intern in 2002 and has spent her entire professional career with the organization. Since then, she has filled many roles within the company – IT, Accounting, Office Management, and finally Recruiting and Caregiver Services. Jen originally studied to be a teacher, but felt very welcomed by the company culture and found a similar interest in wanting to help people.

Jennifer views her role as one of collaboration and encourages her team to share ideas and challenge the status quo with new ways of doing things. She is also responsible for continually working on ways to improve operations and has integrated new technologies to add greater efficiencies. Jennifer embraces the challenges of finding the highest qualified caregivers head-on and referring the right caregiver match for each client’s unique needs.

When not working, you can find Jennifer spending time with her husband and two young daughters.

Sherry Peach-Walker

Sherry Peach-Walker is Vice-President, Human Resources at Family & Nursing Care. A graduate of Penn State University, Sherry began a career serving older adults by gaining experience in hospice, senior living, and with an employee assistance program.

Since joining Family & Nursing Care in 2005, Sherry has advanced through the ranks several times, most recently serving as Vice President, Client Services before transitioning to her current role. This breadth of experience gives Sherry a unique perspective and ability to think strategically, but never lose sight of what is most important to clients and families, something she keeps in mind while overseeing the hiring, management and training of Family & Nursing Care staff. Sherry sees to it that staff keep Family & Nursing Care’s Guiding Values top of mind always, and that they remain committed to ensuring that the needs and expectations of clients, families, and professionals are met.

When not working, Sherry enjoys spending time with her husband and two sons, especially when they are together riding roller coasters, enjoying indoor waterparks, or watching Marvel movies.

Mitch Markowitz

Originally from New Jersey, Mitch has been with Family & Nursing Care since 2001. A graduate of Towson University, Mitch is responsible for marketing oversight and business development for Family & Nursing Care.

Prior to joining Family & Nursing Care, most of Mitch’s experience was in the senior housing industry, at both assisted living communities and continuing care retirement communities. He is very active in the local community, currently serving on the Board of Trustees for The Beacon Institute and as a part of the Leadership Montgomery class of 2015-2016. He has also served as co-chairperson of the GROWS Program Committee, as well as other local committees. He has spoken at the local, state, and national level.

While not working, Mitch is an avid sports and music fan, but nothing is more important to him than spending time with his wife and two children.

Risa Margulies

Risa has enjoyed a long career in Corporate Communications; leading communications initiatives for esteemed companies including HSBC North America, Sodexo, Inc., Choice Hotels International and Marriott International. Coming to Family & Nursing Care in August 2020 from the hospitality industry, Risa places an emphasis on customer care and making sure that messaging resonates with her intended audiences. Risa graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in English Communications from Yeshiva University- Stern College for Women. She has had a passion for working with older adults since her days in high school when she volunteered at a Senior Living Community, and when she aided her grandmother’s transition to a Skilled Nursing Facility during a summer off from college. She is so grateful to now be able to lend her communications expertise in this industry.

When not working, Risa enjoys spending time with her husband and three young adult children, as well as staying active, cooking, reading, and watching TV and movies.

Mindy Kursban Kwiatkowski

Mindy serves as Vice President, General Counsel for Family & Nursing Care, a role she has had since 2007. In addition to overseeing the legal aspects of the business as in-house counsel, Mindy manages all government relations matters.

Mindy is on the Board of the Private Care Association, a trade association for caregiver registries; a member of the Maryland Chamber of Commerce Labor & Employment Committee; and a member of the Association of Corporate Counsel, a bar association for in-house counsel, for which she volunteers on the Community Service committee.

Prior to joining the family business, Mindy served eight years as general counsel and then as Executive Director of the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine, a nonprofit health advocacy group that focuses on disease prevention through good nutrition and compassion in medicine. Mindy currently serves as the Chair of the Board of the Physicians Committee.

Mindy holds a  J.D. from the Emory University School of Law and a B.S. from the University of Maryland. When not working, Mindy spends her time promoting veganism and animal rights, including as a volunteer for the Veg Society of DC.

Kira Ebanks

A Pittsburgh native raised in Silver Spring, Kira has been with Family & Nursing Care since the beginning of 2017. At the age of 16, she was admitted to college, earning her Bachelor’s Degree from Howard University and her Master’s Degree from George Washington University. Prior to joining Family & Nursing Care, Kira worked in the fields of tourism and education, discovering a love of numbers very early in her career.

Although she has spent much of her life living in Maryland, Kira lived for many years in the Cayman Islands, where she not only worked, but also met her husband. When not working, Kira loves reading, traveling, anything related to arts and crafts, but most of all, spending time with her husband, two kids, and two dogs. She hopes to travel cross country in a RV one day!

Jeff Zukerman

Jeff’s experience in the elder care industry dates back to 1997. Prior to joining Family & Nursing Care in 2010, Jeff was the Executive Director of a Boston-based private duty home care company, HouseWorks of Greater Washington.

Jeff began his career in the hospitality industry after graduating from Johnson and Wales University in Providence, Rhode Island. In his first position at a five-star resort, he learned about providing exceptional service and constantly striving for excellence in the customer’s experience. He brought that same passion to the healthcare industry when he joined Marriott Senior Living Services. Throughout his 10+ year career with Marriott, then Sunrise Senior Living, Jeff had the opportunity to work in three different senior communities and was invited to visit many others to help with special projects. It is through these experiences and the first-rate professional development he participated in throughout that time that Jeff developed a passion for “getting it right” for older adults.

Jeff is committed to seeing through the eyes of clients and is continuously looking for innovative ways to improve the lives of older adults. To enhance his knowledge base, he achieved a BA in Management Studies from the University of Maryland and has plans to complete a Masters in Healthcare Administration.

When not working, Jeff enjoys spending time with his wife and four children, especially when they are playing sports together.

Neal Kursban

Neal joined the family business in 1995. Neal has worked in every job in the company, including receptionist, care coordinator, caregiver services recruiter, intake specialist, consumer relations liaison, IT manager, VP Sales/Marketing, VP Operations, and VP Finance. These roles enabled him to understand all the important details of running the company and gave him the background and knowledge he needed to lead the company into the future; He became President in 2008 and CEO in 2018. He currently plans to expand Family & Nursing Care’s services to other markets.

Neal is a sought-after speaker who has appeared at conferences around the country. His insightful leadership articles on home care topics have been featured in a variety of national publications. Neal devotes considerable time and money to charitable organizations in the Maryland and DC area and serves on various boards dedicated to improving the quality of life for older adults. Neal has helped shape the laws of home care across the country. He is also a mentor for the University of Maryland Entrepreneurship Center.

Neal has a BA in Business and Finance from the University of Massachusetts and an MBA in Entrepreneurship/Management from the University of Maryland. Prior to joining Family & Nursing Care, he worked for PepsiCo and was quickly promoted to District Manager and later to Human Resources Manager for the San Diego market. When not at work, Neal spends much of his “free” time doing anything athletic, traveling, reading, and having lots of fun with his wife, four kids, and pets.
